Obituary for Mabel C. Shimmel (Parks)

Mabel C. (Parks) Shimmel, 92, of Hyde went to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Shimmel was born on September 2, 1921 in Bigler, a daughter of the late Clark C. and Edith V. (Waple) Parks. She married Harold Shimmel on November 6, 1940 in Wallaceton, and together, raised nine children.

Known as a woman of prayer and unwavering faith, she was a member of the Clearfield Bible Missionary Church. Mrs. Shimmel also took joy in staying at home and raising her family and will be remembered as an exceptional baker and cook.

She is survived by eight of her nine children, Phyllis Jean Letts of Hyde, Norman Wayne Shimmel and wife Marion of Carlisle, Mona Kay Bush of Woodland, Joan Elizabeth Blackmon and husband Rev. Alan of Asheboro, NC, Dorcas Karen Junod and husband Richard of LaJose, Steven Michael Shimmel and wife Kim of Glastonbury, CT, Cheryl Ann Myers and husband Fred of Norton, OH and Thomas Glen Shimmel of Clearfield; nineteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren with another great-grandson scheduled to arrive next week. She is also survived by three sisters, Maxine Yaglowski of N. Tonawanda, NY, Martha Bell Gallo of Amherst, NY and Pyretta (Peg) Jane Brooks and husband Bob of N. Tonawanda, NY; a brother, Nelson George Parks and wife Teresa of Sun City Center, FL; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Parks of Woodland and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Shimmel on May 2, 2002, one son Harold Wesley Shimmel, two sons-in-law, Jefferson W. Bush and Rev. David D. Letts, one daughter-in-law Theresa (Orsino) Shimmel, and one grandson-in-law, Eugene Urban. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Leora Ada Dixon and Viola Fadel; and two brothers, Edmund Jacob Parks and Charles Sherman Parks.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Thursday at 11 AM with Pastor David Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 PM and on Thursday from 10-11 AM
.
