Obituary for Joan A. Aveni (Lanich)

Joan A.  Aveni (Lanich)
Joan A. Aveni, 71, of Clearfield died on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

She was born on July 21, 1943 in Clearfield, a daughter of the late William C. Lanich and Nellie (Smith) Lanich Benjamin.

Joan retired as supervisor for the PA Department of Transportation after 30 years of employment.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield and a former member of the Clearfield Sons of Italy Lodge.

She is survived by her husband, James A. Aveni whom she wed April 27, 1974; a step daughter, Jennifer Harford of Reynoldsville; six grandchildren, Jessica Komonzi, Ashley Harford, Kristin Johnson, Joseph J. Aveni, Frank Aveni and Emily Aveni; three great grandchildren, Micah and Joshua Johnson and Maxwell Aveni; and a sister, Judy Gardner and husband Jack of Clearfield.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a step son, Joseph Aveni; and four brothers, Tom, Leo, Merle and Edwin 'Skip' Lanich.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Monday at 10 AM with Fr. John L. Miller III as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Sunday from 5- 8 PM and on Monday from 9-9:30 AM.

A Christian vigil service will be said at the funeral home on Sunday at 4:45 PM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield.
