It allows family and friends a place to re-visit, interact with each other, share and enhance this tribute for future generations. Obituary for Dorothea M. Bartell

Dorothea “Dody” Bartell, of Curwensville, died on Sunday, October 19, after a brief illness. She was 98.

Dorothea was born in Lumber City on May 4, 1916, the daughter of Ray and Letty (McCully) Wolfe. She grew up in Kerrmoor, lived in Dearborn, Mich., during World War II, and then in Curwensville for the rest of her life. Since 2012, she had been a resident at Ridgeview Elder Care, also in Curwensville.

Dorothea was a graduate of Curwensville High School. In 1938, she married John J. Bartell. She was business manager for Bartell Transfer and also worked in Clearfield at Brody’s and at Anderson’s Hallmark Card Shop. She was a member of the Curwensville Women’s Club and of the Curwensville Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a sister, Geraldine Wolfe Barrett; and a brother, Augustus Wolfe. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy, of Carmel, Ca.; a son, Gerald, of New York, NY; a cousin, and several nieces and nephews.

Gerald and Nancy express their thanks and appreciation to the warm and expert staff at Ridge View Elder Care for their superior work and to many of “Dody’s” friends for their kind acts of assistance, especially during the past three years. In particular, we wish to thank Debbie and John Lingenfelter, Barb and Ed London, Grace Swanson, Janice Litz and Dale Collins. If we have inadvertently overlooked anyone else who helped “Dody,” we apologize and thank them as well.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ridge View Elder Care, 30 Fourth Ave., Curwensville, Pa., 16833; to “501c3,” Curwensville Community Center, Blueprints Committee Account, PO Box 171, Curwensville, PA 16833; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Interment will be at Watts Cemetery in Kerrmoor. In accordance with the expressed wishes of the deceased, there will be no funeral service.
