Obituary for Eleanor Althea Wheeler (Wheeler )

Eleanor Althea Wheeler (Wheeler )
Eleanor Althea Wheeler passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 9:20 PM while residing at Mt. Laurel Nursing Home in Clearfield.

Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Clearfield, formerly of Barclay Street. Daughter of Beatrice and Edgar Wheeler, sister of Charles Melvin Wheeler, and beloved aunt of Donna Lee Wheeler of Langhorne, PA.

A strong and independent woman who enjoyed the quietness of her hometown and the simplicity of life, she spent many a day hiking the mountains, making wind chimes from soda bottle tops, or sitting on the back porch swing sipping tea. On the other hand, her brother Charles had left Clearfield many years earlier to enlist in the Marines during the Second World War and later raising his family in Bucks County, PA. It was Eleanor who sacrificed her own hopes and dreams in order to care for her aging parents. Smart, witty, and outspoken, she could debate among the best of them. Given the means and the opportunity, she would have enjoyed a career in politics or law, arguing for the rights of women.

Eleanor was a woman who taught her family the values of loyalty and honesty .. how to live a life where no document needed to written but a handshake was good enough. She will be forever missed and remembered with much love and admiration. The tree where her and her family once carved their initials surely still remains.

Sincerest gratitude for all the dedicated people of Mt. Laurel who helped care for Eleanor, especially Diana, Dixie, Karen and Linda. And to all those who came to visit, although Eleanor's family may not have ever met you, THANK YOU.

In accordance to Eleanor's wishes, there will be no public services held at this time.

The Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield is in charge of arrangements.
