Obituary for Richard C. Freeman

Richard C.  Freeman
Richard C. Freeman, 84, of Clearfield died on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Independent Court of Erie.

He was born on November 25, 1930 in Clearfield, a son of the late William and Ernestine (Rafferty) Freeman.

Mr. Freeman retired in 1995 from Cleveland Brothers Equipment Company where he was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for 39 years. Prior to that he worked with his father at the Freeman Coal Company.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield and also a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6. A veteran of the US Army, Mr. Freeman served during the Korean War.
He is survived by three children, Cathleen Berry of Chalfont, Robert Freeman and wife Mary of Erie and Karen Harvey and husband Charles of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Daniel Berry and wife Diandra, Michael and Brian Berry, Katherine Paulsen and husband Eirik, Elizabeth Strahin, and Christopher and Brielle Harvey; a brother, Robert Freeman and wife Debbie of Clearfield, and his sister-in-law, Audry Freeman of Clearfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret 'Peggy' (Perks) Freeman on May 18, 2004 and whom he wed May 15, 1954 in Clearfield. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Donald Freeman.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Saturday at 10 AM with Fr. John Miller as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Honor Guards.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday from 3-7 PM and on Saturday from 9-9:30 AM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Catholic Church, 212 S. Front Street, Clearfield or a charity of one’s choice.
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Independence Court and Asera Care Hospice.
