Obituary for Vera J. Lingle (Jones)

Vera J. Lingle (Jones)
Vera Elizabeth Jones Lingle passed away on Monday February 9th, 2015 at Ridgeview Eldercare in Curwensville.

Born December 23, 1935, on Ridge Avenue in Curwensville, she was the daughter of the late George “Ray” and Vera (Way) Jones. She graduated from Curwensville High School in 1951.
Vera married Harold McCracken in 1951, with whom she had two children. Harold died in 1958. In 1960, she married Lawrence Riddle, with whom she also had two children. Vera was married to Benson H. Lingle in 1977.
Vera had a passion for learning, especially through reading and traveling, passions her children and grandchildren inherited in full measure. She loved history, painting, antiques, gardening (especially landscaping) and exploring the Southwestern United States. Vera, ever the adventurer, took up flying and earned her private pilot’s license in 1974. An astute business woman, Vera worked as assistant purchasing agent for RD Goss from 1970 to 1974, and retired after more than 11 years as Executive Director of the Associated Builders and Contractors’ Central Pennsylvania Chapter. Vera’s greatest joy in life was her 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, which she considered God’s most precious blessing.

Vera is survived by her children: Steven Riddle, Sandra Douglas, Larry Riddle, Jr. and Ronda Schell; grandchildren Corey, Shannan, Tara, Stormy, Alysia, Jessica, Tyler, Kyle and Sean; 5 great grandchildren; her sisters Janet Goss, and Jeannette Kibbe, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Harold, her infant daughter Kay, and her brothers George and Harold.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Ridgeview Eldercare, where Mom, along with her dachshund, Lola, made her home in her later years. We are grateful for and in awe of your love for our Mom.

A memorial service will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Wednesday at 1:00 pm with Rev. Daniel M. Osterhout officiating.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12-1 PM.
