Condolence: Its been nearly a year since you been gone!
By Westly Alexander Shaw
Written for John Barber's Family

Its been nearly a year since you been gone,
when I came across two butterflies.
Butterfly, Butterfly, I remember the day we first met. It was the first day of spring. Drifting in the air was a fragrant sweeter than any perfume ever made. It was coming from the velvet snow colored petals that floated to the ground as if they were tiny feathers in the gently breeze. I had closed my eyes tight to feel the kiss and warmth of the sun, which gave me as much comfort as the blanket I had when I was a child. When I opened my eyes. I thought I was seeing double. You appeared as if by magic and were taking turns playing a child's game of follow the leader. Oh what a beautiful sight, two sun colored butterflies, with edges all trim in black that reminded me of lace. Each as fragile as glass, and as graceful as a ballerina, I had once enjoyed seeing in the Nutcrackers Ballet. Flying so wild and free, as I listen to the humming of your wings, as if tiny motors in a plane. I knew just what you were, the souls of loves ones gone before me, who was sent from God above. To remind me I was never alone. Butterfly , Butterfly, I remember the day we first met. You were a blessing then, and more so today. A priceless treasure from the Higher Power above. This is what I thought when two butterflies landed one each on each side of my shoulders! God sent us to earth for a season, and then takes us back. However, death cannot kill love and human hands cannot bury it.

Poem

DEATH AMONG THE ROSES

As the sun came up over the purple mountains, and Mother Nature was dressed in all of his finest formal wear of warm colors. You had taken your last breath on this planet. A day some may have taken for granted.
Only God knows why he took that exact moment of time as fine as sand in an hour glass to call you home.
The church bells were ringing in the hour, as family and friends sat near you, and the rectangle, snow colored box, they had place you in.
Drifting in the air was the sweet smell of roses, that surrounded you, as if guards on duty. It all blended in nicely with the different food smells that would be shared after your service.
I could see your love in the red, your friendship in the yellow, and your passion in the pink roses, that you shared freely while walking on earth.
At a glanced you appeared to be sleeping, and like in the fairy tale Snow White, waiting for your true love to come. You reminded me of a beautiful wrapped gift, surrounded by layers of sky blue satin, and dressed in your finest.
Yet, I wasn't fooled! You were empty inside of your shell.
Death, is just an illusion. A moments rest, and Jesus came and kissed your pale lips, and took your warm hand, as he led you home. It appeared to be death among the roses, but you and I know better.

Condolence: Uncle John will be missed. I will always remember the times he would travel to my Grandma's (his sister's) house for Easter and Thanksgiving meals. I can't remember a lot of details but I do somewhat remember coming to his house for Memorial Day picnics in his back yard and eating watermelon. May you rest in peace Uncle John.

Condolence: John was a gentle, kind, and good man. Our only consolation is that he is at rest and at peace in Heaven with loving souls who cherish him as much as we do. He was the grandpa my sons knew and loved. He was the guy my husband liked to talk with. He was the man who cared for my mother. And he was one of the dear men in my life I loved. We love you, John, and will miss you deeply.
