Obituary for Robert Mitchell Shope

Robert Mitchell  Shope
Robert Mitchell Shope, 88, of Clearfield died on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born on January 1, 1928 in Clearfield, a son of the late Lloyd M. and Edith M. (Demi) Shope.

Mr. Shope retired from Penelec after more than 30 years of employment. He also had a love of traveling, having been able to visit places such as Australia, Alaska and Hawaii. He was a member of US Camberra Association of Great Navy, Veterans of Foreign Wars Leigey Renaud Post 8386, Frenchville, Clearfield American Legion, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #540, and the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #314, Clearfield.
Mr. Shope served with the U. S. Navy during World War II and Korea.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hugney Shope; two sons, Robert M Shope and wife Vianne of Harrisburg and Mark M. Shope of Lock Haven; two grandchildren, Valerie Shope Kelly and husband Jason of Harrisburg and Lloyd Shope; and two great grandchildren, Brock and Zoey Kelly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys M. (Miller) Shope in 1992; and his sister, Mary Jane Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Tuesday at 1:00 pm with Dr. Duane A. White officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Military honors will be accorded at cemetery by the members of the Frenchville VFW Post Honor Guard.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 AM - 1 PM.

The family encourages that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars Leigey Renaud Post 8386, 1525 VFW Road, Frenchville, PA 16836.
