Lawrence P. 'Butch' Mathews , 76

of Stronach died on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born on January 25, 1941 in Grampian, a son of the late Robert L. and M. Elizabeth 'Betty' (Allison) Mathews.

Butch was a heavy equipment operator and a truck driver throughout his life.
He had a love of trucks.
He served with the US Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Jean E. (Dunworth) Mathews; a son, Lawrence P. Mathews, Jr. and wife Kelly of Grampian; four grandchildren, Lawrence P. Mathews, III, Isaac James Mathews, Kaiti Elizabeth Kurtz and Kevin Lyle Kurtz, Jr; four sisters, Delores Beck and husband Dave of Weedville, Myrtle Fye and husband Ray of NY, Carol Turner and husband Howard of Curwensville and Kay Clinton and companion Rod Murphy of Brogue; two brothers, John R. Mathews, III and wife Karen of Grampian and Ronald Mathews and companion Lori of Grampian.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lorri Joan Kurtz.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Monday at 11:00 am with Pastor Harold Harry officiating. Interment will follow in the Friends Cemetery, Grampian.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Sunday from 2-5 pm and on Monday from 10-11 am.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to charity of one's choice.
