Obituary for Michael Valjean Bird

Michael Valjean  Bird
Michael Valjean Bird, 70, of Canal Winchester, OH passed away on February 12, 2017 surrounded by family. Born October 9, 1946 in Clearfield, PA to the late Dr. Joseph Karl and Annabelle (Peters) Bird. Grandson of the late Edward T. and Ada-Scott Bird Sr. and Howard and Bessie Peters.

Michael married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Jean Shaffer-Bird, in 1966 in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl, daughter Michelle (Lary) of Columbus, OH, daughter Vicky (Matt) of Montgomery, TX, and son Andrew of Columbus, OH. Grandchildren Lauren, Kaitlan, Dylan, Krista, Emily, and Jenna. They are the loves of his life. He is survived by many others, of whom he loved.

Michael graduated from the Clearfield Area High School, 1964 and from Franklin University, 1973. He also attended The University of Mary Hardin Baylor for postbaccalaureate studies. Michael served honorably in the United States Air Force, and was stationed overseas in the United Kingdom.

Among his career accomplishments, Michael was both an adjunct professor and guest speaker. Michael was employed and worked as a director/executive with Bordon Inc., Cardinal Health, and Wilsonart International Inc. until his retirement.

Michael enjoyed travel both professionally and for pleasure. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penn State Nittany Lions, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Aside from spending time with his grandchildren and sharing his family history, Michael loved the State of Texas.

Through his personal and professional life, many individuals contributed to Michael’s success, and for that, words cannot express his appreciation and gratitude. Michael was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. Past member of the Oder of DeMolay, Lions Club, and American Heart and Diabetes Associations.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday at 11 AM.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 PM and on Friday from 10-11 AM.
