Obituary for Edward L. Welch

Edward L. Welch, 85, of Bigler died on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at the Penn Highlands DuBois.

He was born on March 18, 1938 in Los Angeles, a son of the late Harlen Welch and Edith Duckett.

Ed worked various jobs as a plumber, electrician, building swimming pools, and later retired as a corrections officer from SCI Houtzdale. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield where he was very active as a lector and Eucharist Minister. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus #409. He was also a member of the BJW Fire Department and the Mosquito Creek Sportsman's Club.

Ed served with the U.S. Army from 1956-1958.

He is survived by his wife, Annamarie A. (Capatch) Welch whom he wed January 28, 1995 in Clearfield; three children, Ed Welch, Trevor Welch, and Kim Sheldon; three step children, Gary Lawhead and wife Tina, Cynthia Straub and husband Daniel, and Kim Eyerly and husband Tim; six grandchildren, Dylan Welch, Andrew Welch, Alex Welch, Justin Sheldon, Jordan Sheldon, and Gabrielle Sheldon;seven step grandchildren, Chad Lawhead, Pascale Lawhead, Susanne Straub Schneider, Dr. Renee Straub, Kristen Straub, Kyle Eyerly, and Brianna Foreman; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, M. Joanne Welch on July 4, 1994; and a brother, Robert 'Bob' Welch.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 10 AM with Fr. Robert J. Horgas as celebrant. Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Friends will be received at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 4-7 PM and Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 9-9:30 AM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Church Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
