Obituary for Ethel Jane Hartman

Ethel Jane Hartman, 98, of Clearfield, went to be with the Lord peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

She was born on August 2, 1924 in Lumber City, a daughter of the late Malvin and Hattie (Bell) Johnston.

Jane was a 1943 graduate of Clearfield High School and then went on to work for a brief time at the Hosiery Mill making parachutes during WWII. She wed Warren G. Hartman June 21, 1947 and helped out at his coal company, but spent most of her time as a homemaker. She had a true passion for gardening and nature and was a member of the Clearfield Garden Club and also a member of the Clearfield Welcome Wagon. She enjoyed painting, quilting, and was an avid golfer at the CCCC. Above all, she was a great mother and caretaker of her family.

She had attended the Bells Landing Baptist Church and the Women's Bible Study at the Clearfield Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her children, Victoria A. Hartman-Rybka of Indian Rocks Beach, FL, Warren 'Chris' Hartman of Clearfield, and Jenny L. Moore and husband Roger of Clearfield; five grandchildren, Jessica J. Rybka and husband Drew Lyon of Denver, CO, Melissa K. Boling of GA, Warren D. Hartman of NC, Beverly A. Carroll of DuBois, and Tyler J. Woomer of Denver, CO; and a sister, Mary Ann Lingle and husband Mel of Clearfield.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren G. Hartman in 1991. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Preston Johnston and Andrew 'Bud' Johnston.

Honoring the family's wishes, there will be no public service, but a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield is in charge of the arrangements.

In honor of Mrs. Hartman, the family suggests making a donation to a local church, planting a tree, or donating a book about nature to the Shaw Public Library.

The family would like to thank all the loving caregivers from Comfort Keepers and Clearfield Hospice. We will be forever grateful to everyone who offered prayers, and kind thoughts and deeds.
