Obituary for F. Clair Thompson

F. Clair Thompson, 93, of Clearfield died on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the Penn Highlands DuBois.

He was born on December 16, 1928 in East Freedom, a son of the late Rev. A. L. and Laura (Guthrie) Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was treasurer of the Progressive Publishing Co. for 43 years and retired from there on December 31, 1999.

He was a member of Centre Grove United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer and was on the board of trustees. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 314 where he served as Master in 1964, and was Counselor for the DeMolay International for many years. He also served as President on the YMCA Board of Directors for 8 years, and also served as President for the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Central PA Board of Directors for a number of years.

He is survived by daughters, Pamela Gabel and her husband, William, of Pleasant Valley, and Susan Thompson of Clearfield; sons, Daniel Thompson of Clearfield and Michael Thompson formerly of Clearfield.

He is also survived by these grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Craig and Suzanne Gabel and their children, Hannah and David; Kristen and John Lanich and their children, Khloe and Brody; Erin and Taylor Thomas and their children, Lydia and Noah-Leigh; and Ryan and Sarah Gabel and their children, Carrie Marguerite, Eleanor Grace, and a child expected in January 2023; Michael Andrew Thompson and his children, Nolan Carter, Emmett Reed, and Madilyn Rae; and Sara Thompson; Lindsey Thompson and Steven Maclay and their children, Callie, Lucy, Addy and Collin; Kelsey and Anthony Natale; and Jensen and Jonmarie Maines.

Also surviving are two sisters, Anna Kyler and Helen MacDowell, both of Johnstown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene J. (Henchbarger) Thompson on April 30, 2015 and whom he wed October 17, 1951 in Baltimore, MD. He was also preceded in death by brothers, William Thompson, Richard Thompson, James Thompson, Daniel Thompson, and Raymond Thompson; and a sister, Irene Fulesday.

Funeral services will be held at the Centre Grove United Methodist Church, Clearfield on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 11 AM with Rev. DeAnn Newhouse and Rev. Ed Zeiders officiating. Interment will follow in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 4-7 PM and on Saturday from 10-11 AM at the church.
