Obituary for Garry D. Smith
Garry D. 'Turtle' Smith, 73, of Clearfield died on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at his home.
He was born on February 24, 1947 in Philipsburg, a son of the late Winfield and Beatrice (Dixon) Smith.
Garry graduated in 1966 from Philipsburg High School. He had been employed at the Ames store in Philipsburg and had also worked construction. Garry loved to be outside - whether it would be fishing, hunting or simply sitting on the porch and enjoying nature. He loved his grandchildren and was know as 'Pap Turtle'.
He is survived by his two children, Kenneth Kephart of Clearfield, and Sara Shirey and husband Mike of Clearfield; several grandchildren including Kimberly Cheskey and boyfriend Jacob Love of Philipsburg, and Christopher Cheskey and wife Lacey of Clearfield; several great grandchildren; two close family friends whom considered a daughters, Nicole Bumbarger of Clearfield, and Kari Wilsoncroft and husband James of Clearfield; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his life-long companion, Nancy Kephart in 2011; and brother, Terry Smith and his wife Mary.
A memorial service will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 1 PM. Interment will be in the Reidy Cemetery, Wallaceton.
