Obituary

Jane Lodico of Clearfield, PA passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 at the age of 92.

Born in Clearfield, Jane was the daughter of the late James and Carmela (Fama) Maiorana.

Jane was the consummate role model, confidante and cheerleader. Her arms were always wide open to welcome family and friends into her home and into her life. She was artistic and had a love of beauty. One of her many gifts was transforming the ordinary into something special, whether it be a room, an object or a meal. In her youth she wrote poetry and sang in the choir. She could tell the funniest stories with a flare that would flatten the room with laughter. She devoted every ounce of her energy into her commitment to her children and her grandchildren. Deeply rooted in her faith, she guided the family quietly but with a will of iron on a path of love, patience and tenderness. Her decisions were always based on what was right for all. Her legacy will be her capacity to love, give and transform.

Jane spent her earlier years in Clearfield and later created a new life in Washington, DC where she worked for the international law firm of Fulbright and Jaworski LLP as Head Receptionist. Upon retiring, she was honored as their official ‘Ambassador to the World.’

Jane was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Boyce; five sisters, Rose Maiorana, Carrie Graves, Theresa Amon, Mary Waterworth-Whiting, and Kathryn Maiorana; and three brothers, John, Anthony ‘Nin’, and Joseph Maiorana. She is survived by two daughters, Terri Davis of Clearfield, PA and Bethany Jones of Fairfax, VA; four granddaughters, Melanie Boyce, Heather Nearhoof and husband Matthew, Natalie Jones, and Amanda Jones; three great grandchildren, Riley Paul-Cook, Maxwell Paul-Cook, and Piper Jane Nearhoof; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory located at 113 N. 3rd St., Clearfield, PA 16830 on Friday, April 5th from 4:00 to 6:00pm.

A memorial mass will take place at the St. Francis Catholic Church located at 212 S. Front St., Clearfield, PA 16830 on Saturday, April 6th at 10:00am.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Connie Lodico Boyce Memorial Scholarship and mailed to Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center, Lock Haven, PA 17745.

I am saddened to hear of the Aunt Jane's passing. She will always be remembered for her warm smile, hugs and fun spirit. I miss our family gatherings at Nana and Nanu's house, but will never forget the love and enjoyment that ensued. I would tell Aunt Jane "You are my favorite Aunt" and she would quietly slip me a dollar with a hug and a kiss. All the other aunts would then get involved with Aunt Tessie asking " How much did Jane give you?" and she would then proceed to give me two dollars. I became rich, but not from all the dollars...it was the family that enriched me and Aunt Jane really was at the center of it.

I have many fond memories of Jane when she was a receptionist at what was then Fulbright. In the sometimes cold and always matter-of-fact large law firm environment, Jane was much more than just an isolated island of warmth. Her genuinely caring approach to colleagues and clients earned her a spot as a star in that universe. Aptly dubbed as the firm's Ambassador to the World. Clients who were told to come to a certain floor went to Jane's floor first just to say hi. And they were always so pleased that, sometimes after a year had passed between visits, Jane would greet them all by name. The family got it right by noting her (I would have said enormous) capacity to love, give and transform. But wait there's more. Jane introduced Fulbright to her lovely granddaughter Heather who brought equal amounts of love and warmth to the firm. Can you believe she was once a legal assistant who guarded the keys to a super-secret data room? They kept treasure in there? Speaking of treasure, that would define my friendship with Heather. Among the most fulfilling moments in my life occurred when, at Heather's 40th birthday surprise, her friends said "Oh, you're THAT Bill". And while we're talking of treasures, think about Piper Jane. Wow. A combination of Heather and Matt is guaranteed to land her somewhere in the middle of just wonderful.

While the joy and comfort of having Jane in our lives has now been taken away, the splendor of knowing Jane and enjoying her company can never be stolen from us. We have more cause for joy for the time we spent with her than we have now for sorrow over her passing. That may take some time to fully realize but during that time I hope Jane's family comes to appreciate that we valued our time with Jane, cherish her memory, and share your grief. May Jane rest in peace.
