Obituary for Judith S. Schell

Judith S. Schell, 80, of Clearfield died on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at UPMC-Mercy, Pittsburgh.

She was born on August 13, 1940 in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Claude and M. Inez (Livergood) Schickling.

Judy received her RN certification in 1961 from the Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and later obtained her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Regent's College. She worked as an RN as well as a nursing educator at various places including the Clearfield Hospital, Dr. Cardamone's office, Curwensville Nursing Home, and taught the LPN program at the Clearfield Vo-Tech. She then later worked as a therapeutic support staff member at the Curwensville schools.

She was a member (and past chapter president) of Pennsylvania Council of the Blind; Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Alumni; former Leonard Grade School PTA President; owner and board member of Pine Grove Nursery; supporter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving; and a supporter of the Clearfield County Conservation District.

Mrs. Schell was a skilled writer and had some of her poetry published. She was an avid and faithful Pittsburgh Pirates fan. She enjoyed listening to the song birds return to the back yard during spring.
Her greatest joy in life was providing care to her family, friends and community. She also loved having the family's pets around; the love was mutual!

She is survived by her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Schell, whom she wed January 27, 1962; a daughter, Elizabeth 'Betsy' Schell of Clearfield; a son, Robert 'Bob' Schell and wife Ronda of Mount Wolf; a brother James J. Schickling of Clearfield; a sister, Karen McKee of Clearfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill Schell; a son, Gary Schell; and a sister, Paula Jane Schickling.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Monday at 10 AM with Msgr. Henry L. Krebs as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Sunday, February 21, 2021, from 1-3 PM and 4-6 PM, and on Monday from 9-9:30 AM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the choice of the donor.
