Obituary for Reginald L. Turner Sr.
Reginald L. Turner, Sr. formerly of Clearfield, the last of his generation,died peacefully at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield on January 17, 2022 in Clearfield, PA at the age of 95.
Reginald was born on August 24, 1926 in Clearfield, PA to Patrick J. and Lula(Haney) Turner. He graduated from Clearfield High School in 1944 where he lettered in Basketball and was employed as an Iceman. After graduation, he joined the Air force Air Cadet Training Program. In 1946 He married Bertha Jean Kyler, Daughter of Millard and Dorothy Hope (Maines) Kyler, and moved to Shawville, PA where he worked for the Kyler Coal Company. In 1950 he returned to Clearfield with his growing family where he held numerous positions which included the Airplane Marine Factory, Riggins Tobacco, Pharo's Motors as a mechanic, Dufton Hardware and was Classified Advertising Manager for the Progress for 17 years. In the late 60's early 70's he was supervisor for Davis Advertising in Philadelphia, Pa. Upon his return to Clearfield several years later he held part time positions at Zalno's Jewelry, Century 21, Petrolec and Martell Glass to name a few.
He continued his education through his years and became certified in, Electrical, Carpentry, Bookkeeping and some computer skills as well.
Throughout his active life he had many interests, one of which was music. He sang tenor in the Clearfield High School chorus and played the base fiddle with CHS concert band. He furthered his talents with the Jack Straley Band known as The 3 Turners and the Melodiers as well as with the Clearfield Choral Society. Another interest was on stage with the Old Town Players. Rounding out his interests later in life was the Chinklacamoose Square Dance Club.
He was an active and dedicated member of the West Side Methodist Church and a member of the church choir for over 60 years.
Civic interest included PTA President at Leonard Grade and Hillsdale Schools, Lions Club and the American Legion.
He was the owner of the Wishing Well Delicatessen in the 50's-60's and enjoyed serving many types of foods during the Clearfield County Fairs at his stand by the Grandstand throughout his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 3 brothers M. Austin Turner, Patrick J Turner Jr. and Rodman E. Turner; one sister, Maxine Quinn; a son, Reginald L Turner Jr; a granddaughter, Amy Louise Turner-Dorazio; and a grandson William E Oldham Jr.
He is survived by three daughters, Dotty (Bill) Oldham of Pottstown, PA, Diann Turner of Osceola Mills, PA, and Dora (Jeffrey) Arnold of Sunbury, PA; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be Monday, January 24, 2022 from 4-7 pm at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield. Services will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2022 at 11 AM at the West Side Methodist Church with visitation from 10 AM until time of services. A reception will follow the service in the church Social Hall.. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Reginald's life.
