Obituary for Robert E. Ryan

Robert Edward Ryan, of Hyde passed away at his home on Sunday, July 10, 2022.

Born December 10, 1932, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, he was the son of Maurice and Wilma (Baeten) Ryan.

He graduated from St. Francis High School in 1950. After attending Gannon College and Penn State University, Bob enlisted into the US Army where he served overseas in Korea. Upon his discharge from the Army, he went to work in the family business, Ryan Brothers Coal Company. He eventually assumed ownership of the company and ran it successfully until his retirement.

On September 3, 1956, Bob married Susan Olson at St. Francis Church in Clearfield. They remained married for 60 years until Susan’s passing on December 13, 2016. Together they raised their family, ran the family business, and provided an example to all of what a true marriage partnership is.

Bob was a parishioner of St. Francis Church and over the years volunteered in many capacities for his Church and for St. Francis School. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.
Together with his family, Bob enjoyed many good times at camp, then Treasure Lake and more recently the cabin. Bob and Susan attended many Penn State football games with special friends and when his grandchildren were growing up, they seldom missed attending the kid’s sporting events.
