Obituary for Thomas G. Johnson
Thomas G. Johnson, 88, of Grampian died on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the Penn Highlands DuBois, surrounded by many members of his loving family.
He was born on February 13, 1934, in Bells Landing, the son of the late Leroy and Nora (Bell) Johnson.
Mr. Johnson graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1952 and became a master carpenter. He had been employed with various companies in the area; however, he was self-employed for most of his life. He loved collecting classic cars, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and was very involved with the local mountain league baseball team, the Hepburnia Twins, where he was known by the nickname ‘Bomber. Tom loved the outdoors, especially turkey hunting. He attended St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church, Grampian, and had attended Bells Landing Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Grampian Lions Club and served his country in the US Army while stationed in Korea. Tom was well respected in the community and was known for his positive and friendly disposition. He coached the Grampian mini-league Pirates baseball team and will be remembered by many of his players as the winningest coach in the league with two undefeated seasons. He lived his life by example and made his gift of kindness and the willingness to lend a helping hand look easy. He loved his grandchildren and took a very supportive role in their athletic, music, and educational careers and upbringing. He enjoyed going to their events and watching his grandchildren grow as athletes, musicians, students, and adults. He was supportive in every aspect of being a grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, JoAnn (Jorno) Johnson; five children, Terrie Knaresboro and husband Gary of Treasure Lake, Mike Johnson and wife Barbara of Grampian, Brian K. Spencer and wife Christine of Grampian, John Johnson and wife April of Grampian, C.J. Spencer and wife Gidget of Grampian; grandchildren; Ken and Kristi Radzieta, Vanessa and Rebecca Johnson, Logan Afton, Breanne Spencer, Hunter, and Conor Johnson, Sabrina, Sydney, Cooper, and Carson Spencer; great-grandchildren, Clara and Corbyn Johnson; a brother, Arthur Johnson and wife Mary Jane of NJ; and a sister, Catherine Hurd of Bells Landing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Mae (McFadden) Johnson; three brothers, Lawrence, Frank, and Ansel Johnson; and a sister, Mary Houser.
A memorial service will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Curwensville on Friday at 1 PM.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Clearfield American Legion.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, July 29, 2022, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
