Betty Ann Barkley, 89, of Clearfield, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, May 15. Betty was born March 27, 1936, in Curwensville, the daughter of the late Winfield Scott and Pearl (Curry) McFadden. She graduated from Curwensville High School, and worked as a secretary at North American Refractories for over 25 years.
In 1961, Betty met Richard Brown Barkley through relatives. They were married on August 24, 1963, and honeymooned in the Poconos. In 1971, their son James W. Barkley was born. Betty was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Clearfield, where she served as a deacon and an elder. She also served various offices for the Presbyterian Women and taught Sunday School to kindergarteners for over 30 years. Betty loved people! She and Dick were often among the last to leave after Sunday services because they loved chatting with special friends.
Betty dearly loved being a "Grammy." Along with Dick, she did everything in her power to spend time with the grandkids and loved to create special family memories. They took the kids to Disney World, set up Easter Egg Hunts in the living room, and loved taking "the girls" to the mall for shopping and cookie treats.
She enjoyed everything about quilts and quilting, cooking big dinners, and chocolate. She was never happier than when friends and family were gathered together. Many happy times were spent on the Barkleys' back deck, eating and laughing with family. Betty certainly had the gift of hospitality!
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband Dick Barkley; two sisters, Judy (McFadden) Johnson and Doris (McFadden) Kolbe; and a brother, John McFadden.
She is survived by her son, James W. Barkley, daughter-in-law Lori (Simonton) Barkley, granddaughters Brynna Dawne Barkley and Katy Wynne Barkley, all of Nicholasville KY; and a sister-in-law Helen V. Barkley of Pittsburgh. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at The Presbyterian Church, Clearfield, on Wednesday May 28, 2025 at noon, with friends and family being received at the church from 10:00 am until the service.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Presbyterian Church, 119 N. Second Street, Clearfield, PA 16830, or to Bristol Hospice, 170 Rolling Ridge Drive, State College, PA, 16801.
Beardsley Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangments.
