David L. Smeal, 75, passed away on September 18, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born July 23, 1951, the son of Leroy and Jane (Teats) Smeal.

David was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 314 and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Valley of Altoona. He was also a member of St Johns Lutheran Church, Clearfield for over 40 years.

Mr. Smeal worked various jobs, starting at Penn Lines after highscool, then for Harbison Walker. He briefly sold insurance at Boyles Insurance Agency. He worked as a Corrections Officer at the Clearfield County Jail for 32 yrs, before retiring in 2016. Throughout all those years he also operated his own lawn and landscaping business.

David was a Black belt in Goshin Jutsu and was an instructor for a short period of time.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda (Kardoley) Smeal whom he wed November 14, 1970; two daughters, Lori Mayer and husband Jason of Jacksonville, NC, Jennifer Smeal and partner Felix DelRosario of Dillsburg, PA, a granddaughter, Grace Caroline Mayer; three brothers: Randy Smeal, Chuck Smeal; Jim Smeal; a sister, Lorrie Matthews; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Gary Smeal, Tom Smeal, and Jody Smeal.

Dave was a lover of the outdoors, he was an avid hunter and fisherman for many years. Anyone who knew him, knew he loved the Steelers, Elvis, Rolling Rock, a cold Rum and Coke, and that he loved to dance. He loved vacationing with the love of his life, in Rehobeth Beach and the Finger Lakes. To some he may have appeared quiet and serious, but for those of us who knew him best, we were lucky to experience his sense of humor and practical joker side. One of his greatest joys was spending weeks with his grand daughter Grace, teaching her to fish, taking her to DelGrossos, shopping and spoiling her. They were like two peas in a pod.

His goal in life was to be the best husband and father, and he surpassed that goal.
