Dorothy Louise (Long) (Gearhart) Byers, 96, of Clearfield passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

Dorothy was born in Clearfield September 26, 1927, to the late Dean R Long and Frances (Shaw) Long.

Dorothy lived her life to the fullest. She loved spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She also loved playing pinochle with her friends in the four card clubs she belonged to and playing the slots at the casino. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing bingo and word games on her iPad. Dorothy had an infectious laugh, a beautiful smile, and was a surrogate grandmother to many.

Dorothy worked as an admission clerk at the Clearfield Hospital for thirteen years before going to work for Dr Nathaniel Yingling and then Drs Polintan, Dotsey, and DuPont for another thirteen years before retiring. Upon retirement, Dorothy volunteered at the Clearfield Hospital in the Cottage Shop.

Dorothy is survived by four children, Betsy (Gearhart) Guthrie and husband Randall of Mineral Springs PA, Dan Gearhart and wife Betsy of Clearfield PA, Carrol (Gearhart) Davis and husband Gary of Spring Grove PA, and William Gearhart and wife Gigi of Clearfield PA; and a son-in-law, James Graham. Also surviving are grandchildren Michael Graham, Randall Guthrie Jr, Richard Guthrie, Robert Guthrie, Samuel Gearhart, Lydia Gearhart, Robert Gearhart, Dan Gearhart Jr, Stacey (Gearhart) Norris, Scott Gearhart, Jennifer Bowser, Lyndsey Rowles, Lesley (Barr) Warren, Jeff Barr, Matthew Gearhart, and Alyssa (Gearhart) Price; 21 Great-Grandchildren; and seven Great-Great Grandchildren. Also surviving are half brothers Byron Long of DuBois PA, Donald Long, and David Long.

In addition to her parents and step-mother Flora (Carns) Long, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband William Byers, daughter Sandra (Gearhart) Graham, son R Denning Gearhart, granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Gearhart, and great-grandson Jacob Guthrie, as well as siblings Mary Jane Cupples, Frank Long, D Richard Long, Carolyn Broderick, and half sister Margaret Wenniger.

A funeral service will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 11 AM. Interment will follow in the Centre Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Friday August 2, 2024 from 4-7 PM and again on Saturday from 10-11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Centre Cemetery Association, PO Box 322, Hyde, PA 16843; or the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 S. Front St., Clearfield, PA 16830.
