Eleanor M. Shifter

Eleanor M. Shifter, 96, of Clearfield, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

Born September 21, 1928 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Saraphina (Mauro) Marinoble.

Mrs. Shifter retired from Verizon, in DuBois, after 30 years of employment as a Service Representative. Prior to that, she was employed by A&P Grocery Store in Clearfield for 23 years as a clerk.

She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Clearfield. She was also a member of the over 50 club of Luthersburg, volunteered at the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, helping to prepare the meals for the Meals on Wheels Program. In later years, she attended the daily activities at the Center.

She was an original member of the 1957 Clearfield Square Dance Club and enjoyed entertaining by square dancing at local nursing homes and hospitals. After retiring, she did enjoy traveling with her husband.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde A. Shifter, whom she wed July 29, 1950 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Clearfield; and a granddaughter, Melissa Burton.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne McCracken and husband Jerry, and Judy Davis and husband Bob, all of Clearfield; one son, David Shifter and wife Lisa of Clearfield; grandchildren, Janessa, JJ, Shane, Tyler, Ryan and Lisa; step granddaughter, Lindsey; great grandchildren, Sofie, Ellie, Henry, Natalie, Ike, Neil, Amory, Dalton, Reagen, Jacob, Mason, Zachary, Dylan, Elijah, Phillip, and Aiden; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was the last member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters and brothers, Nick, Joe, Jimmy, Sally, Mary, Kay, Theresa, and Crem.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Clearfield on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 10 AM with Fr. Marc Soloman as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at the Beardsley Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, September 12, 2025 from 4-7 PM and at the funeral home on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 9-9:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to the St. Francis Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.

The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Friday at 6:30 PM.
