John David 'Dave' Rodkey, 75, of Clearfield, passed away on October 19, 2021 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
He was born on February 13, 1946 in Altoona, a son of the late Robert and Eugenia (Benovic) Rodkey.
Dave graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1964. He served with the U.S. Air Force for four years, based in Abilene, TX with TDYs to England, Germany, Japan and Vietnam.
He was employed by Penelec Generating Station in Shawville for 38 years, retiring on February 13, 2007 as an EandI Technician. Dave was a member of the Clearfield Masonic Lodge #314, and in his youth was very involved with DeMolay. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church, Clearfield.
During his retirement, Dave loved spending any time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid bird watcher, and loved outsmarting the squirrels, cooking, collecting, watching college sports, solving crosswords and storytelling. Dave loved to tell a story, and no one could tell one better than he did.
Dave was the beloved husband of Joyce (Smith) Rodkey for 55 years, and was the beloved father of the following children: Teryl S. Cartwright of Hanover, Matthew D. Rodkey and Deanna Spingola of Clearfield, Janean H. Rodkey and Rev. M. Gwynn Crichton of Richmond, VA; granddaughter, Rebekah S. Wicke of Athens, GA; grandson, Joshua T. Cartwright and wife Jazmin of Red Lion; and great-grandson, Arlo T. Cartwright. He is survived by, and will be so deeply missed by, his wife and children, and sisters, Charity J. O'Dell and husband William and Sandra J. Snyder; sister-in-law, Karen Sankey Rodkey; niece, Kristen Smeal and husband Scott, with children Alexa and Chase, all of Clearfield. In addition, he is survived by his extended family of in-laws; Carol and Jim Walker of Bigler, Richard and Bertha Smith of Clearfield, Dan Smith of Traveler's Rest, SC, Janice Dixon of Woodland, and many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom he loved and considered as his own family.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Timothy R. Rodkey, mother and father-in-law Paul G. and Hesterbell Smith, son-in-law Rev. Dr. Thomas K. Cartwright and daughter-in-law Kelly Norris Rodkey.
Funeral services will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Friday at 7 PM with Rev. Jimmy Hopper officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 PM with a masonic service at 6:45 PM.
