Joseph L. Hess

Joseph L. Hess, 64, passed away on April 21, 2026, at Ridgeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Curwensville after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

He was born May 27, 1961, the son of Alfred Hess Jr. and Ruth 'Connie' (Witherow) Hess.

Joe was the owner of JL Hess & Co. where he worked as a general contractor for over 30 years in the Clearfield area.

He cherished spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren. Joe loved his family dearly and impacted many lives. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Joe loved spending time on the beach at the Outer Banks and St. Augustine, FL. He also enjoyed playing golf, cornhole, and poker. Joe was an amateur meteorologist and always made sure to share an accurate weather report to his Facebook followers.

He is survived by two children, Tasha (Dustin) Woodring of Hollidaysburg, and Zachary Hess of Clearfield; two granddaughters, Aubree Woodring, and Brynlee Woodring; siblings, Alfred 'Pete' Hess, Michael Hess, Susan Hess Gilliland, and Fred Hess; numerous nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Tammy Hess.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by numerous aunts and uncles.

A funeral service will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 11 AM.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday, April 26, 2026 from 2-5 PM & again on Monday from 10-11 AM.
