Joseph C. McGovern, 71, of Clearfield went home to be with his Savior on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
He was born on February 9, 1950 in Clearfield, a son of the late Ward and Donna (Luzier) McGovern.
Mr. McGovern graduated from Clearfield High School in 1968. After graduation, he joined the United States Marines Corps. He returned to the area and had been employed at the brickyard in Clearfield, then the brickyard in Curwensville and also as a state constable. He proceeded to work at the Clearfield County Jail, retiring as lieutenant. Mr. McGovern enjoyed his personal family as well as his church family at Cherry Corner Church, where he was an active member.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy L. (Hixon) McGovern; three sons, Robert McGovern and wife Lori of Curwensville, Matthew McGovern and wife Kelli of Hudsonville, MI, and Adam McGovern and wife Alicelyn of Bellefonte; six grandchildren, Alora and Audrey McGovern, Alyssa and Jonathon Karsten, Colin and Katelyn McGovern; numerous nieces and nephews, including niece Daniell Hixon and her children Acelyn and Phynneaus of Meadville; and siblings Yvonne Shaffer and husband Richard of Clearfield, Francis McGovern and wife December of O'Shanter, Jonathon McGovern of Clearfield, and Celeste Josephic of Houtzdale.
Funeral services will be held at the Cherry Corner Bible Church, Grampian on Monday at 12 PM with Pastor George W. Solley officiating. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received at the church on Monday from 10 AM until services at noon.
