Margaret Proud

November 7, 1938 — July 2, 2025

Margaret McCartney Proud completed her lifetime on earth, July 3, 2025. Margy, as she was affectionately nicknamed, was a source of goodness to everyone who knew and loved her. She offered her loving care especially to nieces and nephews as they were growing up, and she continued to be there for them as adults.

Margy was the beloved daughter of Dellaphine and Thomas McCartney, and she cared for them as they aged. She was a devoted spouse to Alvin Proud, as they were married 42 joyful years. Later in life, Margy and Wayne Archer came together as a lifeline for each other, as they both had lost a spouse to cancer. Additionally, during her days at home, Margy was just a phone call away from her sister, Mary Jane. Together, they shared a precious and special bond.

Margy was one of 15 children and is survived by her siblings Charles McCartney, Mary Jane Crandell, Alice DelGrippo, Patricia Shaw, Thomas McCartney and a myriad of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear Aunt Ruth Ann Dunlap.

Margy was preceded in death by siblings Helen Guerriero, William McCartney, Elizabeth Padgett, Robert McCartney, Richard McCartney, John McCartney, Donald McCartney, two infant sisters, and several nephews.

During different decades of her life, Margy also held positions at the former Kent's Sportswear as a seamstress, and as a nursing assistant at the Marian Manor. Margy was a member of the Grampian Church of Faith.

As we say good-bye to Margy, we celebrate a life lived with compassion and love. Her legacy of kindness, humility, and prayer will continue to be an inspiration to each one of us.

Sincere gratitude to the ICU nursing staff at the Penn Highlands Dubois Hospital for their attentive care and genuine efforts to keep Margy comfortable.

A memorial celebrating Margy's life will be held at a later date.

In memory of Margy, a donation may be made in her name to: Grampian Church of Faith, 6th Street, PO Box 72, Grampian, PA. 16838.
