OBITUARY

Maxwell M. Smith, 97

of Frenchville died on Friday, October 21, 2011 at his residence.

He was born on February 26, 1914 in Girard Township, a son of the late J. Paul and Caroline (Jury) Smith.

Mr. Smith was employed as a heavy equipment operator for many years. He was a member of the Congress Hill United Methodist Church, LeContes Mills and previously served on the Clearfield Area School Board.

Maxwell enjoyed spending time at the ‘Smith’ Camp and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Being born during the early years of aviation, he took particular interest in flying and learning about aircraft. He was a member of Clearfield’s model airplane club, the FREQUENT-C-FLYERS. He was also interested in astronomy, belonging to a local astronomy club and even has a star named after him.

Above all, Maxwell will be missed by his family to whom he was very devoted.

He is survived by a daughter, Janice Zimmerman and husband Jim of Clearfield; two grandsons, Joshua Zimmerman and wife Leslie of Seattle, WA and Jared Zimmerman and wife Shea of Saint Joseph, MO; and a great grandson, Maxwell R. Zimmerman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel (Leigey) Smith on March 19, 1981 and whom he married April 29, 1936 in Cumberland, MD, an infant sister Edith Smith and a sister and brother Pauline Amon and Lewis Smith.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Tuesday at 11 AM with Pastor Susan Arnold and Rev. Kenneth J. Leonard officiating. Interment will be in the Gillingham Cemetery, Frenchville.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8 PM and on Tuesday from 10-11 AM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Gillingham Cemetery, 5743 Gillingham Road, Frenchville, the Congress Hill Church, PO Box 162, Shawville or to the charity of one's choice.
