Nancy Mccracken

November 19, 1938 — August 29, 2021

Nancy (Detweiler) McCracken, of Grampian, loving wife of Samuel, went to live with our heavenly father on August 29, 2021.

Nancy was born in Akron, OH on November 19, 1938 to Virgil and Orpha Detweiler. Growing up, Nancy was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Bob Feller was her favorite player. Each year her family rode the train to an Indians’ game with the B.F. Goodrich employee families. She met Mr. Feller years later when visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Nancy was an outstanding seamstress. She won a college scholarship in the 1957 Singer Sewing contest.

Nancy went to the Church of God College in Anderson, Indiana and met Samuel on their first night of college on the Freshman Hike. They were married the following year and had a loving marriage for 63 years. Nancy and Sam lived in Anderson until 1973 when they moved to Pennsylvania.

As a life-long Christian, Nancy was a member of the West Branch Society of Friends Meeting. She had a close circle of friends from Grampian and Hepburnia who walked and had breakfast together regularly for years. With her husband, Sam, she enjoyed walks on the Rail Trail and stopping to chat with people they met. In recent years they enjoyed taking car rides through the beautiful countryside. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.

Nancy worked at Kent’s Sportwear as a seamstress from 1973 to 1984. She retired in 1984 to mind nephews, grandchildren and others. She spent hours reading to her own children and other relatives as well. She always had a song ready to sing children to sleep. Family was her true passion, and she was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by three children. Mary Anne (Tom) Kierstead of Las Vegas Nevada, Michael (Janel) McCracken and Shelly (Bernie) Rauckhorst of Grampian. Nancy had ten grandchildren Garrett, Will, Trey, and Eairn Rauckhorst, Melanie Pierce, Kamilla, Vika, Kristina, and Svetlana McCracken. Her granddaughter, Betsy Lopez, preceded her in death this past January. Nancy is survived by four great-grandchildren, Evan and Aliana Lopez, and Lincoln and Avelyn Rauckhorst. She is survived by siblings Bruce and Brian Detweiler, Vivian Stiffler, Iris Detweiler and Joan Gravel and in-laws Joseph and Dale McCracken and Carla Sork.

Nancy was preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Donald Detweiler and in-laws Esther Lucas, Eva Reyburn, Nancy McGary and David and Charles McCracken.

The funeral will take place Thursday at 1:00PM at the Friends Meeting in Grampian. Visitation will be at the Friends Meeting in Grampian from 11:00 until the time of services.

Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Curwensville is in charge of arrangements.
