Van Parks Johnston , 82, of Clearfield died on Monday, September 10, 2012 at his home.
He was born on February 11, 1930 in Clearfield, a son of the late Orvis J. and Lola H. (Parks) Johnston.
Mr. Johnston retired as a police officer in Ft. Myers, FL after 29 years of service. Mr. Johnston and his wife, Barbara, subsequently retired back to their hometown of Clearfield.
He was a member of Glen Richey Greater Hilltop Presbyterian Church and the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #314, Clearfield.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Johnston served during the Korean War era.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann (Bumgarner) Johnston whom he wed January 15, 1956 in Clearfield; three children Michael Johnston and wife Susan of Westcliffe, CO, Lisa Gundell and husband Don of Fort Myers, FL and Bob Johnston and wife Vel of Maryville, TN; six grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters Carol Freaney and Barbara Stewart.
A graveside service will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Clearfield on Friday at 11 AM with Pastor Leanne Gill Peters officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Glen Richey Greater Hilltop Presbyterian Church, c/o Rev. Leanne Gill Peters, 2024 Carbon Mine Road, Clearfield.
