Vera L. Maines

Vera L. Maines, 90, passed away on December 12, 2025, at Mountain Laurel Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

She was born August 5, 1935, the daughter of Grover Moore and Emma Jane (Down) Moore.

Vera loved music and played with Bud Moore and the Hillsdale Hillbillies. She also enjoyed watching Westerns and cooking. She was a good woman.

She is survived by her children, John W. Maines Jr. and wife Susan of Frenchville, and Amy Kniss of Bellefonte; a granddaughter, Melorah Medzie-Beyer and husband Charlie of Bellefonte; step-grandchildren, James Gill II and wife Anna, Roy Harris and wife Anita, and Danielle Taylor; and numerous step grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Maines Sr. on October 31, 2015 whom she wed July 24, 1954. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Vivian Spicer, Sylvania Askey, Lillian Moore; and brothers, Willard Moore, Edward Moore, Leo Moore, Harold Moore, and Lester Moore.

A funeral service will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 1 PM.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 AM - 1 PM.

Interment will be in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.
