I just lost the Mother of a very dear friend of mine. Marty and I served in the military together in the 1970s. I went to Germany first and was assigned to the Adjutant General's office where I made assignments for those who came through the replacement unit in Frankfurt. Later, Marty came through replacement and was temporarily assigned to a unit near the Fulda Gap. He hated that assignment so he called me and asked me to reassign him. So, within 3 days I had him reassigned to the Commander General's command as his personal chef. The General came to my office one day and asked me where I found this guy that cooked so damned well. I said, "Sir, Bender has been a friend of mine for some time." He then told me that he was the best cook that he had ever seen in the entire US Army. Before going to Germany we hung out a lot at the Green Bamboo in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. And several times we would go to Clearfield to meet him Mom and some of the rest of the family. Mrs. Haney took me in as though I was another of her sons. I appreciate the love that she extended to me. Now, in our hours of grief, I want to say to Marty that I am so sorry for your loss. I know how much he loved her and she loved him. The loss of Mrs. Haney will be a loss for hundred of people in Pennsylvania and the coal country. God Bless and may you rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Clara’s passing. I worked many years with her at the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging. She loved her job and was so enthusiastic. So happy to have spent that time with her. Debbie Liadis
