Obituary

Laura E. Wingard, 47, of Curwensville, died on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a short illness.

She was born on February 20, 1973 in Everett, MA, a daughter of Frank Anderson of Ipswich, MA and the late Leah (Bishop) Anderson.

Laura was raised in Everett, MA, and, after graduating from high school, she earned her Bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1995. She then received her Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Laura had been a professor of Art History at Juniata College in Huntingdon. In her free time, Laura loved to read, knit, paint, put together jigsaw puzzles, and watch sports, especially her beloved Boston area teams. She also had a true passion to travel with her husband, Brian.

In addition to her father Frank Anderson, Laura is survived by her husband, Brian Wingard of Curwensville whom she wed on June 13, 2010; two brothers, Keith Anderson of Ipswich, MA, and Scott Anderson and wife Diana of Hudson, NH; and two nieces, Elsa and Corinne Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Leah Anderson.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that in order to honor Laura's love of reading and passion for education, donations in her memory be made to the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 S. Front Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.

Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Curwensville is in charge of arrangements.

My deepest sympathies to Laura's family and friends. I knew Laura as a fellow graduate student at PSU. She was modest and soft spoken, but had a wonderful sense of humor--I could tell that she was a real salt of the earth soul right away. I also quickly learned how darn smart she was!! Years later, our paths crossed again at a memorial service for a PSU faculty member. She was the same brilliant, warm person I remembered from nearly 20 years earlier. She left an impression on everyone she came into contact with. I know she will be missed by many.

I worked with Laura many years back at Wordsworth bookstore in Cambridge. She was such a kind, funny, intelligent soul. i remember her beautiful smile which i see again in all the photos shared here.

There was a calm to Laura that was preternatural to her age. She made me laugh with her sense of humor and quirkiness but I also felt like she grounded me too. Laura and I were roommates in Eliot House, and I loved it because there was always something going on with our group of 8. I always imagined meeting up at reunions for many years in the future with our roomies. I'm sending the warmest thoughts to her husband and family.
